On the 18/8/09 some person used xrl.in for links in a spam attack. This has not been the first time this has happened. The spam was reported to spamcop.com and then to my host. They decided that the volume of reports was such that they should take my server offline. The server was restored fairly quickly (for a fee) but not xrl.in. I have had to relocate that.
I am currently trying to find out what they will do in if this happens again.
All the offending spam links where of course taken down.
]]>The changes to the extension include removing the drop down menu. All the settings can still be found in the options window. The created link is now also copied to the clipboard by default, though this can be turned off. There is also now support for the Link Groups feature of Xrl.in.
]]>Now if a Xrl.in link is click that leads to a page that contains either a phishing attack or malware (viruses) a warning page is displayed about the risk of continuing. This is intended to discourage attacks from using xrl.in and protect you if they do.
]]>The link can then be shared in emails, IM, forums etc. The page that it displays besides just listing the links also has a button to open them all.
]]>Also for all users that may have a user account on addons.mozilla.org please consider posting a review on the Xrl.In Tiny Links extension so that it can get out of the sandbox. I have put it up for consideration to become public but it was refused because there are not enough reviews.
